Agronomist Atticus Finger of Labaideville has been hired by the American Sugar Cane League to manage seed cane increase stations in the Bayou Teche region and northern parishes of Louisiana's sugarcane belt.

Finger will also assist in all League crop research activities throughout the region, including new variety outfield testing, cultural practices, pathology testing, billet planting and whole stalk planter assessments. He assumed his new duties May 1.

Finger graduated from Assumption High School and then completed a double major earning a Bachelor of Science in wildlife conservation and a Bachelor of Science in forestry from Louisiana Tech University in 2009. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in agronomy at LSU and scheduled to complete his course work in December 2015.

His previous work experience includes a three year stint as a research technician for Dr. Anna Hale at the United States Department of Agriculture Sugarcane Research station in Houma. He has been integrally involved in the basic sugarcane breeding program and well-versed in sugarcane variety development.
He will work with agronomist Herman Waguespack Jr., who has been with the League since 1985.
