League Congratulates Richmond, Scalise and Johnson

The American Sugar Cane League extended congratulations to the Louisiana congressional delegation as three members of its representation were elevated to leadership positions in Washington D.C.

“The Louisiana sugarcane industry is very happy to know that Representative Cedric Richmond of New Orleans, Representative Steve Scalise of Metairie and Representative Mike Johnson of Shreveport will all have larger roles in the next White House and Congress,” said Jim Simon, manager of the League. “All three have been supportive of the sugarcane industry and have played key roles in maintaining a strong United States sugar policy that supports U.S. jobs and ensures a safe a reliable food supply for American consumers.”

Richmond will leave his congressional seat to assume the role of senior policy advisor in President-Elect Joe Biden’s administration.  Scalise was re-elected to continue serving as Republican Party Whip and Johnson was elected to serve as the vice-chair of the Republican Conference.

“The Louisiana delegation has always taken a keen interest in congressional and national leadership,” Simon said. “Louisiana’s sugar producers congratulate our champions for this recognition of their leadership abilities and wish them well as they assume their new positions.”
