Pierre “Pete” Lanaux Obituary

Pierre "Pete" LanauxPierre Baget Lanaux passed away on Monday, February 12 at the age of 93. He was the son of the late Louis A. and Hilda T. Lanaux.

He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Even Lanaux, who was the love of his life for over 60 years. He is also predeceased by his brother Denis Lanaux and sisters Mary Louise Lanaux and Marthé L. Gelé. He is survived by his brother Hilaire (Ethel) and Louis, Jr. (Pam) Lanaux. Mr. Lanaux is survived by six children: John, Thomas (Rebecca), Pierre, Jr. (Amelie), Robert (Anita) and Paul (Joanne) Lanaux and Mignonne Lanaux Cimino.

He had fifteen grandchildren: Christopher (Amy) and Travis (Sara) Lanaux; Amelie L. Matthews (Christopher), Pierre III and Behn (Kelsey) Lanaux; Leslie H. Sanders (Todd), Ryan Haney, Lisa H. Hebert and Lindsay Haney (Tim Parker); David (Ashley) Cimino, Kathleen C. Cannino (Josiah), Ryan and Jonathan Cimino; Kaitlyn and Marigny Lanaux. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Sarah Jane, George and Jack Lanaux; Elaine and Saray Matthews; Audrey and Amelia Hebert; Noah and Sofia Kate Cannino, David Maxwell and Abigail Mae Cimino.

A native of New Orleans, Mr. Lanaux began farming sugar cane in 1945 and continued in the business for the remaining 73 years of his life. His dedication and devotion to farming earned him numerous awards during his career, and he was most recently selected for induction into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, on Monday, February 19, 2018, in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON, 3827 Canal Street. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until Mass time. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery #3.
