Two new sugarcane varieties, L 14-267 and HoCP 14-885, will be available for planting this year. Louisiana commercial sugarcane growers wishing to receive seedcane of the new varieties must complete this application.
Secondary stations should have adequate seedcane supply of both varieties to satisfy reasonable requests for seedcane. All efforts will be made to fill orders at the secondary stations of choice, but sometimes there are more orders than seedcane available so adjustments may be needed. L 14-267 generally increased well over the last few years, but HoCP 14-885 seems to have increased exceptionally well and generally has a greater population of stalks to use as seedcane. Growers often ask how much seedcane should they apply for. A general rule of thumb is one ton per hundred acres on your farm. Growers are encouraged to try these new varieties on their farm.
