Sam Irwin joined the staff of the American Sugar Cane League as its inaugural public relations director in 2012. He previously served as the press secretary for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) and editor of the Louisiana Market Bulletin.
A native of Breaux Bridge, Irwin was graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor and Masters of Arts in history. He was selected as the 2010 recipient of the Regnal Wallace Ag Communicator of the Year award presented by the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, and has written hundreds of features and press releases about row crops, the cattle industry, aquaculture, and the people who make up Louisiana’s agricultural scene.
Irwin is a member of the Baton Rouge chapter of the Public Relations Association of Louisiana and the Baton Rouge Press Club. He is also active in his neighborhood’s civic association. Prior to entering the public relations field, Irwin owned Paradise Records, a music store at the north gates of LSU.
He is married to the former Betty Ruth Dupont of Plaquemine and resides in Baton Rouge.
