Atticus Finger joined the agronomy staff of the American Sugar Cane League’s agronomy team in May 2015. He is in charge of seed increase stations in the Mississippi River and Bayou Lafourche regions. He also works in other League research activities including new variety outfield testing, cultural practices and pathology tests, billet planting, and whole stalk planter tests throughout the region.

Finger grew up in Labadieville and is no stranger to the Louisiana sugarcane industry. His father, Chris Finger, worked in the variety program with Dr. Ben Legendre at the USDA Sugarcane Research station in Houma. Sugarcane-related topics were a common subject in the Finger household. He graduated from Assumption High School and then completed a double major, earning a B.S. in Wildlife Conservation and a B.S.F. in Forestry from Louisiana Tech University in 2009. Finger received his Master’s degree in Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences at LSU in December 2015. For the past two years, he has worked as a research technician for Dr. Anna Hale at Houma’s USDA Sugarcane Research station. He has been integrally involved in the basic breeding program and understands the importance of sugarcane variety development.
