Due to robust research and improved farming practices, sugarcane acres continue to expand across Louisiana and are now grown in 25 parishes. In some parishes acreage may be modest, but for some producers adding cane to their operations has helped them continue cattle ranching or other types of farming by providing diversification and additional income.

Pelican State sugarcane growers have been producing sugarcane for commercial purposes since 1795, and before that when the Jesuits planted cane in 1765 for their own use.

Sugar is pure, contains no man-made chemical or warning labels, is 100% natural, and is less than 16 calories per teaspoon.

For 2024, the average Louisiana sugarcane farm was 1,205 planted acres.
